Lots of losses, lots of loyal fans
By Tyon Posey
It has been 12 years since any of New York’s eight major professional teams won a championship. For sports enthusiasts connected by passion and pride to their favorite teams, that’s a huge blow.

“Real sports fans are gonna be with their team win or lose thirty years, forty years. I might die and never see the Knicks win the championship. You understand? That’s a reality,” said Charles Ponder, a Knicks diehard.
Back in 2012, wide receiver Mario Manningham’s miracle sideline catch made the Giants the last New York team to win it all against The Patriots. In 2024, when Knicks star Jalen Brunson broke his left hand during the second round of the NBA semi-finals, that dashed any hopes that the New York team would be the one.
With the Yankees on a 45-20 winning streak this year, maybe–just maybe–a New York team will bring home the gold trophy.
“A Yankees or Giants championship parade down 8th Avenue in New York would be awesome,” said Justice O’Reilly, whose favorite team is the Yankees. “Yeah, I’m hoping for it, hoping for anything at this point.”
